About Us

Belati Wangsa (M) Sdn. Bhd. (BWSB) a subsidiary of Johawaki Sdn. Bhd., is a reputable road management company which has been entrusted with the maintenance of Federal roads in the Northern Zone of the Peninsular Malaysia.

On December 22, 2000 , the company signed a 15-year concession agreement with the Government for the management and maintenance of 2,600 km of roads, including Federal Roads (Main), Federal Roads (Felda), Road Entrance to Federal Institution and Industrial Roads, in the states of Perak, Pulau Pinang, Kedah and Perlis. It took over the management of these roads on February 16, 2001 .

In this agreement, the company is responsible for carrying out routine, periodical and emergency works along these roads. BWSB has more than 150 sub-contractors in the four states.

The company has a staff strength of about 250 comprising engineers, technical assistants, technicians, drivers and general workers.

The company headquarter in Ipoh, Perak, and has 10 area offices in Kinta, Gerik, Tapah, Sitiawan, Taiping, Alor Setar, Langkawi, Kulim, Kangar and Penang.


Activities

Routine Maintenance Works

Routine Maintenance Works are carried out out based on a basis or pre-defined cycle for various work activities. The activities are categorized into seven differences component i.e. maintenance of pavement, road shoulder, grass cutting, road furniture, bridges & culverts, drainage and routine inspection.



  • RO 1 - Pavement Maintenance
    Pothole patching, sealing of surface cracks, reinstate edge deterioration of back filled trenches, clear vegetation on paved surface, treatment to deterioration of concrete pavement, repair to concrete pavement joints and repair to paving blocks and slabs
  • RO 2 - Shoulder Maintenance
    Re-grading and topping up of shoulders as required, filling irregularities in unsealed shoulders and filling pavement/shoulder level differences.
  • RO 3 - Grass Cutting
    Cut and dispose grass to the limit as per cycle

  • RO 4 - Road Furniture Maintenance
    Cleaning of road signage, guardrails, kilometer posts and delineator posts as per cycle
  • RO 5 - Bridges and Culverts Maintenance
    Cleaning works and removal of vegetation as per cycle
  • RO 7 - Drainage Maintenance
    Cleaning and desilting works as per cycle
  • A - Landscape
    Not applicable since 2006
  • B - Routine Inspection
    Routine Inspection of all activities and conditions of road as per cycle


Periodic Maintenance Works

The periodic maintenance works shall comprise the following:

  • Preventive maintenance works
  • Pavement strengthening of roads
  • Normal preventive maintenance works on all roads, including resurfacing and all other associated works.

Drains and curvelets - repair/reconstruct/build new

  • Upgrading the drain and culvert at flooding area.
  • Slope repair (shoulder, cut slope and embankment)
  • Repair of road furniture - replace and installation of new guardrails, delineator posts, signboards, road studs, roadline painting, road kerbs
  • Repair of traffic light
  • Clearing the domestic waste
  • Clearing the blockage culvert as required
  • Clearing the potential fallen tree
  • Clearing the potential hazard to the users
  • improvement on road safety


Emergency Works

This category of work refer to those road maintenence activities where the occurrences of which are difficult to predict or no within the control of the Company but which have an immediate effect on road maintenance and therefore have to be dealt with without delay.

  • Landslide
  • Embankment failure and road subsidence
  • Failure/Collapse of bridges and their related components
  • Collapse of culverts and drainage structures
  • Flooding
  • Closure of roads due to spillage of chemicals, hazardous, toxic or inflammable materials
  • Closure of roads due to fallen trees


Contigency Plans

Type of Disasters

Occurrence of natural disasters which are covered by the Disaster Contingency Plan that may involve Belati Wangsa:

  • Floods
  • Storms
  • Hill/landslide

The role of Belati Wangsa in facing such situations include:

  • The setting up of 'Ranging Poles' at appropriately appointed places
  • Clearing and cleaning up lanslide debris to achieve normal traffic
  • To prepare a list of instructions, instruments and manpower needed during time of crisis

Receive report from District Engineer
Verify the site and situation of the flood
Send team to the scene
Set up 'Ranging Poles' and singnage
Make sure the works are carried out in safe manner
Report the situation of the flood via telephone immediately
Ask for JKR's help when necessary

Place notices informing road closure and flood level situation at major crossings as well as at each end of efected area
Place warning lights at the affected area
Monitor flood situation continually
Examine all culverts and bridges for signs of cracks after heavy downpour
Carry out repair works once instructed 


Receive report from police or Fire and Rescue services
Identifying the nature and location of hill/landslides
Ascertain that relief works are done in a safe and secure manner
Report of hill/landslides via telephone immediately
Request assistance in manpower, relief vehicles, etc
Set up detour signage and warning signals along the main road heading towards the disaster site
Carry out relief works once instructed
