Abstract

Malaysia is a country in the South East Asian region consisting of 13 states and 3 Federal territories. It is located near the equator, thus the weather is characterized by tropical climate. Its’ area is 329,847km2 of which the capital city is Kuala Lumpur, whereas the seat of the Federal Government is in Putrajaya.
The accident situation in Malaysia is considered quite alarming. The nation is facing an economic loss through approximately 6,000 deaths annually. Malaysia has an index of 3.7 deaths per 10,000 registered vehicles. The index per 100,000 populations is at 23.0 compared to some developed countries who are at 10.0 deaths per 100,000 population. As such there is still a lot of room for improvement in terms of road safety in Malaysia. Malaysia has set its target to 2.0 deaths per 10,000 registered vehicles in the year 2010.
